September 2023 Meeting

PTO Meeting Minutes
September 19, 2023 6:30pm

Call to Order: Meeting called to order at 6:35 PM by President Andrew Sharp.
Old Business: Treasurer report read, voted, 2nd, accepted. Balance $1,283.43
New Business: Currently 17 families have joined PTO via Givebacks site.

Open Positions: Amanda McKey nominated, 2nd, unanimously approved as new Treasurer. Thank you for taking the position! Interim Treasurer Scott Tosh moved to Secretary, nominated, 2nd, approved. Event Coordinator still opened, the positions and amount of events in a typical year were discussed.

73fe38b1c2dd5a313fe3b2b39f240e3273f0dd6eSpirit Wear: Sale begins 9/26 thru 10/8. Flyers will be sent home with all the details soon. During discussion it was recommended to add baby onesies as well as pet options to purchase in the future.

Rescheduled Rained Out Play Date: A new date was spoken about to reschedule the play date. It was decided after input from all to make it a monthly event for the rest of the school year. Dates will be announced when Facilities Use confirmation is received from MNPS.

Ongoing Fundraisers: Kroger, Publix, Givebacks. Ms. Kirstin Sharp discussed that Givebacks is new this year and provides several opportunities while shopping at several different sources. She also explained how you are prompted to join when signing up for the PTO on Givebacks.

Upcoming Dates:

      • 9/28/23-Chick-Fil-A Spirit Day Hermitage location, all day, app orders only! Must use code PENN28 when prompted, flyer below to go home soon with all details.

  • 10/4/23- Walk to School Day - Will meet at the Catholic Pastoral Center at 7:15 AM.
    Flyers have already gone home. Transportation for guardians/parents from Pennington
    back to cars provided.
  • 11/17/23-PTO Sponsored Dance -  Dance will be a fundraiser. Pre registration and payment will be available. The cost is only $5 per family. Only Pennington students with the exception of babies. No drop offs unless a premium spot is purchased. There will be 25 family Premium Drop off spots made available. Drop offs MUST BE prepaid and registered! Will be sold on a first come basis. More details will be sent home before the event.

Report from Ms. Hardin- Thursday night will be Math and Literacy night, Students will be provided pizza and entertainment in the cafeteria while parents/guardians report to classrooms. Ms. Hardin also reminded anyone who wishes to volunteer to help out in any way to contact their students' teacher for needs. Book fair will be from Nov 27th-December 1st. Details will be sent home closer to time. Winter Performance is scheduled for Dec. 1st. Again details and confirmation on the date will be sent home closer to the event. Always keep reading!

Open Floor: The floor was opened for any questions, comments, or concerns. Ms.Gonzalez, our new principal introduced herself and her dog named Chiqui. She spoke about her advocacy to have loving animals to be involved with the support and encouragement of students. Chiqui will be getting more involved with the students. Ms. Gonzalez also encouraged all at the meeting to reach out to other families in their friend groups to become involved with the PTO. The more involvement the PTO has the more events that can be done to help the students, faculty, and community. Ms. Gonzalez also mentioned she is planning on attending all the PTO meetings.

Next spirit night planning has begun and PTO will reach out to Nectar about having a Spirit Night in early December.
The staff at Pennington are in discussions to have some sort of parade or event for parents around Halloween. They will keep us posted.
