PTO Meeting Minutes

March 17, 2026

Call To Order: Meeting was called to order by President Andrew Sharp at 6:32pm. There are 3 Board members, 10 members, Principal Gonzalez, and School Board Rep for District 4 Dr. Berthena Nabaa-Mckinney in attendance.

Treasurer Report: Full report posted on website. Current balance $9,211.34.

New Business:

  • Fifth Grade T-shirts will be designed and printed at PTO expense for the 5th Grade students and all Staff that would like to have one. Moved, Second, and passed unanimously. Designs will be placed on Zazzle if anyone wishes to purchase them.

  • Spirit Day at Music City Antiques Market Place has been fully approved and will be held.

  • Skate night will be held April 8th from 6-8pm. Full details and FAQ here.

  • Teacher Appreciation week will be held the first week of May the 4th through the 8th. Anyone that can solicit donations or would like to donate please contact the PTO by email. Thank you to the Pferdehirt Family who has agreed to provide lunch for the staff one day.

  • Upcoming PTO Board elections will be held soon. If you or anyone you know has interest please contact the PTO by email. There have been 3 people so far to show interest, additional information has been provided to them about the procedures and what each office does.

Principal's Report:

  • Ms. Gonzalez spoke about the institution of the incentive program for students to be able to earn a gold coin that they then can use in the new book vending machine. Every 3 weeks the highest earner of house points from each house will receive a coin. The students have several ways to earn points through positive behavior, kindness, academics, parental involvement, etc.

  • Friday March 20th is National Downs Syndrome Day please have your child wear blue and yellow t-shirts, or colorful socks to show support.

  • There has been a mailbox placed outside of the main office to allow students or parents to place suggestions for equipment, events, or anything that they would like to see take place at Pennington. Ms. Gonzalez reads suggestions received in the morning announcements. Ms. Gonzalez then held a Q&A for any questions that those attending had.

Special Guest School Board District 4 Report: Dr. Berthena spoke to the meeting about the upcoming budget process for MNPS next school year. She will hold a budget 101 meeting on Monday March 23rd 4:30 to 5:30pm at the Donelson Library. Tuesday March 24th Dr. Battle will present the upcoming budget at the school board meeting at 4pm. The general board meeting will then be held at 5pm at the main MNPS office on Bransford Ave. You may also watch on the MNPS youtube channel or Metro Nashville Live channels. A Community Budget Meeting will be held March 25 from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the MNPS Wellness Center.

Save the date for Field Day May 15, 2026, many volunteers will be needed, especially in the afternoon.
