PTO Meeting Minutes March 19, 2024

 

March Meeting Slides

Meeting Called to Order:  Meeting was called to order by President Andrew Sharp at 6:32 pm.

Old Business:  Treasurer report presented by Amanda McKey.  Report date Feb 13th thru March 18th.  Beginning balance was $4374.94, ending balance was $4,306.71.  Complete report posted.

Spirit Wear site is up and active, and will be available throughout the school year.  Yearbooks are still on sale thru this Thursday.  Assessment Workshop will be held this Thursday from 5-6pm.

New Business:  The school purchased a great projector and a license to enable our school to have regular family movie nights and to use as student incentives.  PTO has been asked to purchase an inflatable screen.  Moved, seconded and approved to purchase a screen with a budget of $450.

Skate night Spirit Night will be held at Rivergate Skate on April 10th.

Teacher appreciation week will be the first week of May.  Budget needed to be approved for expenditures for the week.  Moved, seconded, and approved for with a budget of $1,500.  

5th grade class t-shirts have arrived and will be distributed to the students.  They were purchased by the PTO.

Teacher Report:  Delivered by Ms. Hardin, Field Day has been set to be held on May 17th.  It will be held in two sessions with the morning session from 9-11:30am (K-2nd) and the afternoon 12:15-2:30 (3rd-5th).  There will be volunteers needed to help with the 30 game stations.  Sign up will be posted in school Facebook groups in the beginning of May.

Principal Report:  Given by Ms. Gonzalez.  Ms. Gonzalez spoke about the Dia los Ninos (Day of the Children) family event.  We discussed a possible date of April 20th from 12-3pm.  The event will celebrate children with games, and encourage families to build a sense of community with each other and the school.  Volunteers will be needed to help with games. A sign up will be posted in the school Facebook group.

Ms. Gonzalez also discussed the desire to have a workshop with volunteer families to help create 8 4X5 Sensory walls for indoor and outdoor use to help with the students' needs.   She explained what sensory walls are and the importance of the sense of touch with children in their development both emotionally and educationally.  Ms. Gonzalez would like to host a workshop for families interested in helping create the walls on Saturday April 6th.  Pennington has purchased the peg board walls and families can collect and provide the materials and design of the walls.  A sign up will be posted in the school Facebook group and is also available here. Lastly, Ms. Gonzalez said there will be “Coffee with the Principal”  beginning on March 27th at 7am.  This will be an opportunity for Parents to have conversations, get updates, and learn through fun activities what the students are currently learning and how to help them make great strides in their education.  These will be held monthly and will alternate from morning to afterschool to let the maximum number of parents who wish to attend to be able to do so.
