PTO Meeting Minutes
April 15, 2025

Called to Order: Meeting was called to order by President Andrew Sharp at 6:33pm.
Treasurer Report: Presented by Treasurer Amanda McKey. Full report posted, current balance is $6,927.61. 
Publix has ended their Community Partners program. This program has donated $546 to the PTO in the past year.

Upcoming Events:
Teacher and Staff appreciation week will be May 5-9th. Teachers and staff will be treated in some way each day by the PTO, Families, or Administration.

New Business:

  • The PTO moved, voted, and passed these individuals for 2025-2026 Board:
    Andrew Sharp - President
    Scott Tosh - Secretary
    Vivian Vazquez - Treasurer 
  • The PTO moved, voted, and passed to use the remaining Event budget to provide popsicles on Field Day. The PTO is seeking assistance in sourcing Ice Cream Truck like popsicles to enhance this for our students.
  • The PTO moved, voted, and passed an increase from $500 to $1,250 to support the Fifth Grade Field Trip.
  • The PTO beginning the planning stage of adding a Gaga Pit to enhance our playground. We will be working with nonprofit Tool for Schools to provide the building skills needed for the project. The PTO moved, voted, and passed a budget of up to $2,500 to fund the Gaga Pit and needed accessories.

Accomplishments: The skate night fundraiser exceeded last years numbers and raised $412. 

Principals Report: Presented by Ms. Gonzalez.

  • The Captain Planet learning garden construction has begun, the ribbon cutting will be held on April 30 and local dignitaries have been invited. Pennington's next goal is to add an outdoor classroom adjacent to the garden. Pennington is working towards STEAM Accreditation, next year's focus will be the addition of a Makers room.
  • Please continue to have your students arrive at school on time so they can participate in The Happy Camper Caper Conundrum. Students who attend school April 14-25 will participate in a camping themed mystery on May 1 & 2 to solve puzzles. McGavock High School's new Raider Bites food truck will be at Pennington serving hot dogs and smores. Thank you to Ms.Ryan for this creative "escape room" like event.   • Ms.Gonzalez shared her experience working in schools with and without a PTO in her career and the importance of our maintaining the leadership of our PTO. The school cannot do what the PTO does on many levels. She stressed the importance of parent involvement so that the work may be divided to prevent leadership and volunteer burn out. 

Teachers Report: Presented by Ms. Hardin. 

  • Field Day is Thursday May 15. Mr. Farmer will need many volunteers for both sessions of Field Day. Sign ups are available now on our PlanHero sign up.
  • The library will be ending check outs prior to the end of school, please make sure to return all your library books and pay for any lost.
